According to the New York Times workers who are unable to switch jobs out of fear that their health benefits will be lost are said to suffer from "job lock." Changing jobs and losing coverage can set off a range of insurance traps such as no coverage for a year or excessive premiums. This is the day and age of contract work where employers can hire and fire easier than ever, and offer very little, if any, health benefits to non-permanent staff. If you find you are amid certain job lock, donât settle, especially when it comes to your health benefits.
